Our specialists always follow strict rules of tooth-preserving treatment. If a temporary tooth can be saved, we will definitely do it. However, in clinical practice there are regularly situations where emergency or planned tooth removal becomes the only correct medical decision for preserving the health of the entire jaw system.
The most common and favourable reason for a visit to the surgeon is strong mobility of a temporary tooth. When the root has almost completely dissolved, the tooth starts to wobble badly, causing the child pronounced discomfort while eating or talking. If it doesn't fall out on its own for a long time, the gum around it may become inflamed. In that case, quick and careful removal of the baby tooth in the doctor's chair takes just a few seconds and brings the child instant relief.
Unfortunately, the enamel in children is very fragile, so active decay can destroy the crown in just a few months. If the infection goes beyond the tooth into the bone, near the roots of the baby tooth and the bud of the permanent one, a little ball — a fistula on the gum — forms, and in such cases the baby tooth can no longer be saved. In such situations there is a direct indication to urgently carry out a surgical procedure. Timely extraction of the diseased baby tooth reliably protects the bud hidden in the jaw from dangerous purulent damage.
The process of changing the bite doesn't always go smoothly. Sometimes a molar has already started to erupt actively in a second row, while its temporary predecessor is still firmly holding its rightful place. To prevent serious curving of the whole row, the children's orthodontist may refer the young patient to the oral surgeon for removal.
The main feature of the work of the surgical department at Inwhite Medical Kids is strict pain control and full psychological adaptation. Which pain-relief technique will be used for tooth removal is always decided by our experienced anaesthetist together with the surgeon.
For quickly extracting very wobbly teeth we use two-stage local anaesthesia. First the dentist carefully applies a “tasty” numbing gel with a fruity scent to the gum. Only after the mucous membrane has completely lost sensitivity does the doctor make a completely unnoticeable injection with an ultra-thin needle. With this tooth-removal technique the little one won't feel even the slightest discomfort.
If the child is very anxious, afraid of the doctor's instruments or is due to have baby teeth with firmly seated roots removed, we recommend carrying out the procedure under nitrous-oxide sedation (“laughing gas”). The child breathes slightly sweet air through a comfortable mask, which relieves the feeling of panic and relaxes the muscles. The little hero stays conscious, calmly watches cartoons and lets the doctor do their delicate work.
For the very youngest (under 3–4), children with developmental features, or in situations where several baby teeth need to be extracted at once, modern medicated sleep is used (anaesthesia with the drug Sevoran). Our clinic in Moscow is equipped with an advanced anaesthesia unit. Carrying out removal during sleep is a safe world practice. The child simply falls asleep in mum's arms and wakes up in a cosy recovery room, where tasty ice cream is already waiting for them. The exact cost of this service is calculated individually.
